After having dropped the children off over my parents this New Year’s Eve, it was a time to ring in a safe and prosperous New Year with the one that I love and cherish the most- my husband! I love you Pete Scribner! What a night to remember indeed! We were going to go to Regal Cinemas and catch a 9:00 P.M. cinema, but time escaped us, sooooooo……. we went to the IMAX at the Quarter, which is located at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, NJ, and what a night it turned out to be. Not only did we get to see “The Hobbit-The Desolation of Smaug,” and enjoy a peaceful night to our selves to ring in the New Year!,- says NO ONE EVER! In fact, peaceful was far from the truth. What a day, or should I say night- no maybe it is correct to say morning to remember. Yes, definitely a morning to remember. After all, after 12:00 A.M., it IS officially morning, even though normal people ARE sleeping. But who said I was normal?
However, because I wanted to see “The Hobbit Desolation of Smaug,” my good and faithful husband escorted me to the IMAX for the 2 and a half hour showing of the 3D version of this wonderful fantasy film. Needless to say, OUR story doesn’t end there. We didn’t get to toast to New Years because we were on the edge of our seat while Smaug tried to burn Bilbo Baggins and the Dwarves to smithereens, so we saved ours for after the New Years, but where and when were we to go? Choices choices…..
So naturally, after the movie we used the bathroom and observed the goings on of a drunken New Years party, and those who attracted the attention of several security guards to their lively brawl outside the Quarter at the Tropicana- Fight number 1. Oh to relive high school all over again. Yay! To intensify things, my husband tried to intervene and try to be the hero and help A.C.P.D. Oh my, my nerves were nothing but shot. All I wanted was a glass of champagne, a couple of valium, and to go home. I felt completely out of my element. Ironically, though, he was all revved up and wanted to see if there was anymore “free fights” playing at the Trop tonight. Nothing. Ah. Thank you. Calming. All was quiet. So we went back to the Quarter and sat at the Irish Pub where we toasted, I with my champagne, and he with his beer, and then I had a strawberry daiquiri whilst he had two more beers. he was feeling good, so we walked for a bit, but no matter where we went after the Irish Pub played the “Red Peters-The Closing Song” I was more on the edge of my seat walking around than in the presence of an action film. You know that sixth sense you get or gut feeling you have- yeah, the one telling him I wanted to go home? Well there were TWO MORE FIGHTS! ON THE CASINO FLOOR! WITHIN FIVE MINUTES OF EACH OTHER (actually one was closer to Hooters-go figure?!). I am so glad we went to the Quarter at the Tropicana to ring in the New Year. I felt unsafe. Yet, I also felt unsafe to leave because I was afraid of what element was on the elevator on our way to the parking garage. Furthermore, had we left earlier, who would have been drinking and driving? Were we really safe anywhere? So when people say have a safe and prosperous New Year, I can definitely say I’m off to a good start. Right- J.D. with a twist of Rum and coke to wash it down at 5:30 A.M. to help me sleep?! Good night! And Happy New Year to All!
